Where possible I will list these in "suggested play order", but note that expansions can be played in any order.

Base Games (required)

This is the 2023 re-print of the 2021 re-release of the Core Game System. This current version is easily identified by the white Avalon Hill logo in the lower right-hand corner. The game itself was originally released in 1989 and this is a faithful recreation, though with modern game components.
The 2021 version can still be found and is easily identified by the logo in the lower right-hand corner. However this version should be avoided due to how difficult the miniatures are to remove from their packaging.
It contains everything you need to play the game.
- Miniatures for the heroes, enemies, and furniture.
- The Gameboard and cardboard tiles for traps, blocked passages and other terrain.
- Movement and Combat dice.
- Playing cards for various game compoents (Treasure, Spells, Hero Stats and so on).
- Character sheets.
- A 14-Quest book and Dungeon Master screen.

NOTE: You need either this or First Light to play any of the expansions!

This is the 2025 release of an alternate Game System. It has fewer miniatures, a smaller box, smaller price tag, and is intended to offer a less expensive way to get into the game.
It contains everything you need to play the game.
- Miniatures for the heroes, and an exclusive dragon.
- Cardboard standees for enemies and doors.
- A double-sided gameboard
- Cardboard tiles for furniture, traps, blocked passages and other terrain.
- Movement and Combat dice.
- Playing cards for various game compoents (Treasure, Spells, Hero Stats and so on).

NOTE: You need either this or the Core Game to play any of the expansions!

Hasbro Pulse Era (2020 and 2021)

When Hasbro aquired the rights to HeroQuest, they launched a crowdfunding campaign on Pulse.
There were two Tiers:

Heroic Tier

Pictured above is the "Alternate gender hero box" and mock-up miniatures.
The Heroic Tier included:
  • Base Game (the 2020/2021 is technically discontinued, replaced by the 2023 re-print)
  • Kellar's Keep expansion (NOT discontinued)
  • Return of the Witch Lord expansion (NOT discontinued)
  • Alternate gender version of the 4 main heroes, plus hero cards (never available for retail)

Mythic Tier

Pictured above is the "Mythic box".
The Mythic Tier included:
  • The entire Heroic Tier
  • Mentor (exclusive miniature, never reproduced.)
  • Sir Ragnar as a prisoner (exclusive miniature, never reproduced)
  • The Witch King (exclusive miniature, never reproduced)
  • Prophecy of Telor expansion (reproduced and currently available), which includes:
    • Warlock Hero and Demonform miniatures, hero, skill, and equipment cards
    • Extra Monsters in alternate sculpts/poses
    • Questbook
  • Spirit Queen's Torment expansion (reproduced and currently available), which includes:
    • Bard Hero, hero, skill, and equipment cards
    • Extra Monsters in alternate sculpts/poses
    • Questbook
  • Druid hero (human female) miniature (the mini itself wasn't reproduced but the funtional equivilants are included with Against the Ogre Horde, currently available)
  • Crypt of Prepetual Darkness expansion (rumored to be in production), which includes:
    • Venim dragon miniature
    • Cardboard game tiles
    • Questbook

Above is pictured the Heroic Tier Hero Box alternate gender heroes, highlighted in yellow. These are not exclusive and could be reproduced.
Also included in the image are the Mythic exclusive Mentor, Sir Ragnar and Witch King figures, highlighted in green. These are exclusive to the crowdfunding campaign and will likely never be reproduced.
Lastly is the Druid figure, highlighted in purple. I don't believe she is not exclusive, but Hasbro opted to re-scuplt the Druid class as halflings (both male and female) and included them with the Against the Ogre Horde expansion.

Commander of the Guardian Knights

This was a limited time promotion that featured exclusive models to certain retailers of the initial re-release of HeroQuest in 2021. Due to limited availability, this is one of the most sought after products in the current run. Hasbro is unable to reproduce this product due to contractual restrictions. They posted an apology to the fans on their blog, but it has since been taken down.
A functionally equivilent Knight was included with the Rise of the Dread Moon expansion.

Just a note to say many of these exclusive miniatures have proxy versions available for sale at reasonable prices on Etsy and similar 3rd party seller platforms.

Current Era (2021 to present)

The Dread Veil Dice Set.
This appears to be discontinued. It was only offered (as far as I know) on Hasbro's website and only in North America. It is not longer available on their website.
Supposedly, Hasbro said this was not intented to be a limited/promotional type product and they retain the rights to reproduce it at any time.
The feedback I've seen is that the case/mat is nice but the dice are hard to read. Maybe some day they will make the dice more readable and re-release the product, but as of this writing, it's no longer for sale.
